நாகமொன்று நாணெடுத்து நாகமொன்று மத்திட நாகமொன்று தாங்கியாமை நாகமொன்று நேர்வர நாகமென்று(ம்) பூணுநாதர் நாகமன்று மிடறிட நாகமென்று நாகரேத்த நாகமெட்ட திர்ந்தவே
நாகம் ஒன்று நாண் எடுத்து நாகம் ஒன்று மத்து இட நாகம் ஒன்று தாங்கு யாமை நாகம் ஒன்று நேர் வர நாகம் என்றும் பூணும் நாதர் நாகம் அன்று மிடறு இட நாகம் என்று நாகர் ஏத்த நாகம் எட்டு(ம்) அதிர்ந்தவே
வாசுகி என்னும் நாகத்தை நாணாக எடுத்து மேரு மலையை மத்தாக்கிக் கடைந்து அம்மேரு மலையைக் கூர்மாவதாரம் தாங்கி நிற்க ஆலகால விடம் வெளிப்பட்டது அதனை தனது உடலில் நாகங்கள் என்றுமே பூணும் நாதரான சிவபெருமான் தனது மிடற்றினிடையே அடக்கி விட்டார், இச்செயலை மெச்சிச் சரணடைந்து தேவர்கள் ந அஹம் (எங்களாலாகாது என்று கோஷமிட்டனர்) அக்கோஷத்தில் எண்டிசைகளையும் தாங்கும் யானைகளும் அதிர்ந்தனவே!
நாகம்- பாம்பு, மலை, விடம், நான் இல்லை, யானை, வானம் நாகர் – தேவர்
Taking the Vasuki Naga as a rope, and Sumeru mountain as a churning staff and Kurmavatara holding the Sumeru on its back, the Devas and Asuras churned the ocean of milk for getting the divine elixit (Amrit) there emerged the Halahala poison, at that point Lord Shiva who sports several snakes as ornaments saved all the worlds by consuming the poison and holding it in his throat, on seeing this the celestials understood their non significance and cried out Na Aham and praised the Lord unanimously and vociferously that the eight elephants that hold the universe shook!
