மரமேசு வேலாள்வான் சௌமிய னாறு
சிரமாள்வான் சுந்தரத்தாள் சேர்
அழகு மயில் மீது ஆடி வருவான் - அழகான மயின்மீதமர்ந்து ஆடி வருபவன்
நிசாசரரை நேடி அழிப்பான்- அரக்கர்களைத் தேடிச் சென்று தானே அழிப்பவன்
கோடு மரம் ஏசு வேல் ஆள்வான்- கிரவுஞ்ச மலையையும் மாமரமாக நின்ற சூரனையும் சாடும் வேலை ஆள்பவன்
சௌமியன் - அவ்வாறான வேலாயுதம் ஏந்துபவனானாலும் சாந்தம் மற்றும் அழகு பொருந்திய ரூபத்தில் இருப்பவன்
ஆறு சிரம் ஆள்வான்- ஆறு முகங்களை ஆளுமை செய்பவன்
சுந்தர தாள் சேர்- அழகிய திருவடிகளையே இடைவிடாமல் எண்ணுவோமாக

He who comes moving taking a beautiful peacock as his mount, who on his own showers his devotees by killing Asuras(Nisha charas- those who move around in the night), who destroyed the Krouncha hill (a form taken by Tarakasura) and Surapadman who took the shape of a mango tree with his vEl (lance) and despite holding such a fearsome weapon is still of a very pleasant countenance, who controls 6 fine heads, let us constantly worship his (Lord Karthikeya's) all graceful feet which are a thing of beauty.
Murugan or Lord Karthikeya is Shiva Shakthi aikya roopa (शिवशक्ति ऐक्यरूपम्) so he is both consciousness and energy as indicated by the dynamism of a moving peacock. His grace is overflowing without conditions, he comes on his own to defeat the demons (both outer and more importantly our inner ones!) He pierces the Krauncha hill and the mango tree which signify Maya(माया) and Ahankaaram/ego(अहंकारम्) with the weapon vEl(वेल्) which is of gnana swaroopam(ज्ञानस्वरुपम्)
Despite using a fearsome weapon such as this his countenance is always pleasant and filled with beauty showing the side of sanatanic truth that force of God protects and is very pleasant with Dharmic people even though it plays the role of destruction to the demonic ones (both inner and outer) Murugan is the overlord of six faces, puranically it includes the five faces of Shiva and the one face of Shakti adhomukham (अधोमुखम्) which is full of grace and acts as a bridge to normal people to enjoy God's grace. Surrending to the feet of the Lord which is a personication of beauty and grace is the ultimate conquest of ahankaram(or the ego principle) which is the final fronteir even for the person in spiritual path. The futility of self effort and exaltation of surrender is indicated as the highest goal (the goalless goal!) in the spiritual path.
